TAGSA Donates Butterfly IQ Ultrasound Devices to Guayaquil Municipality

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge global healthcare systems. To support the fight against the virus, Corporación América and Grupo DK, representatives of TAGSA—the concessionaire of José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport in Guayaquil—have donated 10 Butterfly IQ portable ultrasound devices to the Honorable Municipality of Guayaquil. This initiative introduces the city to a new era of advanced medical technology and improved patient care.

According to Ezequiel Barrenechea, Vice President Director of TAGSA: “Ecuador is now the second country in the region to adopt this cutting-edge ultrasound technology that is transforming healthcare worldwide. Argentina, home to Corporación América, was the first. We bring this donation to ensure Ecuadorians have better opportunities for quality medical attention.”

The Butterfly IQ portable ultrasound scanners enable abdominal, cardiac, obstetric, pediatric, vascular, trauma, and lung examinations without requiring patients to visit a healthcare facility. These devices allow fast and efficient diagnostics from any location, improving accessibility and response times during emergencies.

The donated ultrasound equipment features a robust anodized aluminum structure, thermal efficiency, and resistance to extreme conditions. Fully compatible with Android and iOS platforms, these devices include advanced security certifications to protect patient data. Additionally, the units come with a lifetime membership, eliminating future costs for public healthcare administration.

Guayaquil Airport Marks 100 Days of Operations

Guayaquil Airport has completed its first one hundred days since the restart of commercial air operations, fully complying with all government and city regulations, especially strict biosecurity measures to prevent and mitigate the spread of COVID-19, ensuring the health and well-being of all airport users.

Guayaquil Airport was the first in the country and in Central and South America to receive international commercial flights.

During these first 100 days of reactivation, 1,254 commercial aircraft operated, transporting 106,595 passengers, of which 31% were on domestic flights and 69% on international flights.

In this period, 53% of international airlines resumed operations with 39 weekly frequencies, and 66% of domestic airlines with 27 weekly frequencies. Flight levels remain low due to some countries not yet restarting commercial air operations and the current low demand.

During this time, 94% of passengers expressed high satisfaction with the biosecurity measures implemented at the airport. We continue working on constant cleaning of all areas, enforcing mandatory mask use, and monitoring physical distancing between people.

TAGSA reaffirms its commitment to ensuring safe passenger mobility while protecting their health and well-being.

International Flights Resume at Guayaquil Airport

With a ceremonial water salute, the first international commercial flight in the country was welcomed at José Joaquín de Olmedo Airport after two and a half months of suspended operations due to the COVID-19 health emergency.

Upon arrival, the 128 passengers from Fort Lauderdale, United States, on Spirit Airlines underwent strict biosecurity checks. The Ministry of Public Health carried out COVID-19 screenings and rapid tests.

“For Guayaquil Airport, this flight is highly significant because it marks the reopening of Latin America and Ecuador's skies to the world for commercial flights, and we are very optimistic about it,” said Ángel Córdova, General Manager of TAGSA, the airport's concessionaire.

After disembarkation and aircraft sanitization, the same plane departed with 73 passengers bound for Fort Lauderdale (USA), becoming the first outbound international commercial flight from the country.
